End of Summer Update! 🌊🛶 Our boat is officially out of White Bear Lake, winterized, shrink-wrapped, and parked for the winter—all within 24 hours of pulling it out a few days after Labor Day. A huge thank you to Jason and Angie Brown and the fantastic crew at White Bear Boat Works for making it happen! This year, our all-volunteer non-profit had a RECORD-SETTING summer! Together, we achieved some incredible milestones: • 233 two-hour trips completed. • 2,006 passengers welcomed on board. • Over 2,300 fish caught and released during 58 fishing trips (with plenty of photos to back up the fish tales!). We are incredibly grateful to our community, sponsors, and generous donors. We are also deeply proud of our 24 Captains, 93 Mates, and behind-the-scenes volunteers who seamlessly arrange, coordinate, and manage every single detail. Our reach continues to grow, serving metro area guests from: • 83 distinct care facilities • 38 community groups • 33 trips coordinated through the White Bear Lake Senior Center Behind the Scenes: Keeping the Motor Running ⛽ Our "new" motor is now 5 years old and has logged 1,729 total hours—with 418 hours added this summer alone! As you can imagine, that takes a lot of fuel. We burned 600 gallons of gas over 15 weeks, costing $3,000. Shoutout to our dedicated three-person fuel team who manually added 40 gallons a week using 5-gallon cans right on the dock! Since launching in 2015, Bear Boating has proudly taken more than 15,000 passengers out on the water completely free of charge. Celebrating 11 Years 🥂 Today, we celebrated the end of the season with our year-end luncheon at Boat Works Commons. A special thanks to the City of White Bear Lake for providing this history-filled community room in the Marina. After 11 years, it truly feels like our clubhouse. Please enjoy the photos and comments in the post below! 📸👇 From all of our volunteers and guests: Thank you to everyone who makes these unforgettable days on the lake possible. ...
Thanks for sharing your pictures and kind words. Looks like a perfect day for a boat ride. Good to know you added some memories to get you through the upcoming winter’s days. Looking forward to seeing you next summer. ...
Happy Labor Day from Bear Boating! Today marks the end of summer and the official close of Bear Boating’s 2026 season. It has been a truly record-breaking summer. Our 23 Captains and 97 Mates welcomed 2,006 passengers across 233 trips. Running four trips each weekday between Memorial Day and Labor Day with just a single boat is no small feat—especially with some of the challenging air quality and weather days we faced this year. We send a heartfelt thank you to all of our volunteers and passengers for their cooperation in making every two-hour trip safe, smooth, and enjoyable. We are deeply grateful to our sponsors, supporters, and everyone who has made a donation. Your generosity is what allows us to keep these boat rides entirely free for the community. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a beautiful natural resource in White Bear Lake, and we are honored to share it with all of you. Thank you for an unforgettable season! See you in 2027! ...
We have finished Week 14 and are headed into the 15th and final week of our 2026 season. Last week gave us so many special views of the sky. The moon had a big week itself with the partial eclipse—we caught it peeking up as it rose over Mahtomedi and Birchwood on a few different nights. Sunsets in late August are always great because we get to enjoy their full splendor just as we return to the dock. It was also a special week for celebrating incredible women and a lifelong girlfriends' group. This lake sure can bring out the best. ...
This morning’s trip as we approached the dock we remembered Dolly Parton and cranked up the volume a little bit. The early lunch crowd on the deck at the VFW may have joined in as well. Dolly’s spirit and kindness will be missed. ...
Whew! Week number 13 (and trip number 199) is in the books, and it went by way too fast. We had beautiful weather for the most part for our 19 trips this week. We are seeing 14 to 18 loons scattered around the lake, plus two juvenile and two mature bald eagles resting on docks and boat lift covers while feasting on fish. Many boats of all types are out enjoying mid-August lake days, and lots of fun people wave wherever we go. With just two weeks left in our season, we are savoring each trip and beginning to say “see you next summer” regularly. Our guests are grateful to everyone who supports BearBoating and provides these free trips. Thank you! ...
